A Bang Phli industrial-estate mooncake factory ships 7,000 tonnes a year to the EU on a 3-shift, 24-hour line. In August 2025, internal QC swabs detected Listeria monocytogenes on Line A's conveyor and Line B's filler.
QA Director Khun Wandee knew: in 36 hours, 1,200 cartons would arrive at the Port of Hamburg. A single positive there would put the company on the EU Rapid Alert list across all 27 states.
Listeria monocytogenes grows at 4°C, tolerates high salt, and forms biofilms resistant to ordinary cleaning. It is dangerous to unborn babies, the elderly, and the immunocompromised, with mortality of 20–30%.
The EU enforces zero tolerance in ready-to-eat foods — even 1 cfu / 25 g triggers immediate rejection.
In factories, Listeria hides in weld seams, under conveyor belts, and around floor drains. Standard hand-wash plus CIP cannot remove it.
1. 1,200 cartons × EUR 180 = EUR 216,000 (~THB 8.4 M) returned/destroyed.
2. EU destruction fees.
3. RASFF listing.
4. Loss of BRC and FSSC 22000 status next audit.
5. Eight contract clients across five countries cut ties.
6. Parent-company IPO valuation hit.
Standard CIP: handles closed pipes only; misses conveyors, weld seams, ceilings.
Hand-spray: never covers 60 m of line.
Plain Quat: biofilm shrugs it off.
The factory needed U260 fogging Peracetic Acid + Chemgene HLD4H across the full line during the cleaning gap between shifts — every crevice covered, biofilm killed, no food residue.
Khun Wandee called WHD at midnight. Within six hours WHD delivered four U260 units, 5% Peracetic Acid, Chemgene HLD4H, and a validation team.
48-hour plan: 1) Halt Lines A and B. 2) Deep CIP on piping. 3) U260 fogs 1:100 PAA across both lines and the packing room (800 m²) in two hours. 4) Close four hours, ventilate two. 5) 100 swab sites — Listeria 0 cfu everywhere. 6) Run a test lot. 7) Re-swab eight hours later — still 0 cfu.
Outcome: the EU shipment passed every inspection. No Rapid Alert. The next BRC audit returned an A++.
Peracetic Acid oxidises biofilm cell walls, proteins, and DNA, with no residue — it breaks down into water and acetic acid.
U260's 5–50 micron droplets reach weld seams, under conveyors, into sensor housings, and every crevice hand-spray cannot reach — leaving a biocidal film.
1. Kills biofilm of Listeria, Salmonella, E. coli.
2. Reaches every line crevice.
3. Two-hour between-shift cleaning gap.
4. Works with PAA, Quat, Iodophor, NaOCl.
5. BRC / FSSC 22000 / IFS / SQF ready.
6. No food residue.
7. Stainless-steel safe.
8. Cheaper than outside validators.
9. 1-year warranty, parts on hand.
10. WHD — 065-556-6294, LINE @whd268.
Before: Listeria positive on two lines, THB 8.4 M at risk, Rapid Alert imminent.
After (48 hours): 100 swabs at 0 cfu, EU shipment passed, BRC A++.
"We used to rely on CIP and hand-spray, but Listeria hides where the washers cannot reach. U260 + PAA gives us confidence in every container we ship."
