Why mould always returns to the same corner

A room corner is where air moves least. Airflow from an air conditioner or fan circulates through the middle of a room and weakens by the time it reaches the corners, so moisture at the wall surface there evaporates more slowly than anywhere else.

A corner is also where two walls meet, giving a greater mass of masonry and a slightly lower surface temperature than the rest of the wall — so water vapour in the air condenses there first.

In a flooded house, both of those factors plus the moisture still held in the brickwork make the corner the place mould returns first, however many times it has been painted.
